MY FEE'S...

A professional accountants fees are based on the time, skill, expertise and knowledge required to complete each engagement.  As each accounting and tax engagement is unique, it is sometimes difficult to predict the total cost of an engagement.  However, a professional accountant can usually provide a fee estimate once they have consulted with the client and obtained sufficient information on the nature of the engagement, the books and records available, and the overall organization of those records.  If the client can provide an organized set of accurate and complete books and records then they can minimize their accounting fees.

Generally professional accounting fees are billed on an hourly (or charge-out) rate, and the hourly rate applied may be unique to each engagement, depending on the nature of the work and the staff member preparing the work.  The charge-out rate is established to cover such costs as professional memberships and dues, professional liability insurance, professional development fees and courses, professional library of software and research materials, staff wages, office overhead, and the like.  Unless agreed upon previously, the invoice for services rendered will be due upon delivery of the completed engagement.

When you consult with a professional accountant, and then engage their services, a "letter of engagement" will be signed between the client and the accountant.  This letter outlines the agreed upon services that will be provided by the accountant, and the overall repsonsibilities of both parties in that engagement.  This letter must be signed and returned to the accountant before they start work on your engagement.  The accountant may also ask for a fee retainer before they start work on your engagement.

In addition to the fees, disbursements may be added to the invoices.  Such disbursements may include long distance phone and fax charges, courier charges, travel costs or other professional fees.  These other professional fees could include fees invoiced from other accountants who may provide specific and expert tax services related to a particular tax planning or compliance engagement.  Such services would be agreed upon by all parties before they are initiated.  Accountants fees are also subject to GST.

As a professional accountant, I am bound by the rules of my professional organization.  These rules, and checklists, clearly identify the procedures and processes I am to follow before I accept and/or complete any engagement.  Also, when it comes to financial statements, I am bound by the CICA Generally Accepted Accounting Principals.  As a professional accountant, I do not have "legal confidentiallity".  That is, what you tell me in or outside the office does not have lawyer-client confidentiallity or privelage.

Please feel free to contact me by email or phone to set up an appointment to discuss the services you require and the estimated fees for such services.
